Liability Insurance.

RVNA General Liability protects DJs, KJs, and VJs against lawsuits involving injuries to others (ex. your speaker falls on someone’s head) and damage to property of others (ex. your speaker scratches the event site’s floor). This coverage is available with optional limits and includes legal costs in addition to the selected limit.

Commercial General Liability coverage includes:

  • Bodily Injury Liability
  • Damage to Premises
  • Medical Payments
  • Non-Owned & Hired Auto Liability
  • Personal Injury Liability
  • Products Liability
  • Property Damage Liability

Some DJ companies perform at multiple gigs on a single night. For example, you employ or subcontract two DJs, in addition to yourself. You have contracted three gigs/jobs for one evening. You will be at one location and your employed/subcontracted DJs will be at two other locations. In this scenario, you would need to report a total of three gigs.

Subcontractors: If your subcontractors have their own liability insurance, they must add your company as an Additional Insured to their liability policy. Once you are added to their policy as an Additional Insured you do not have to report them as a gig.

Employees: If you employ other DJs, KJs, or VJs, and supply them with equipment in order to perform, this is considered a gig. It’s possible that you may have three employees but perform at a maximum of two gigs per night.

If you do not report the correct number of gigs and a claim arises you may put yourself in a situation where your claim will not be covered. If you report two gigs and later it is discovered that you have three gigs, the insurance carrier will deny coverage based upon the misreporting of the number of gigs.

Yes! DJ Insurance in Minutes is the only DJ Insurance to offer and include Non-Owned and Hired Auto (at no additional cost) with the purchase of our DJ General Liability coverage.

DJ Insurance In Minutes offers Liability coverage for DJs / KJs / VJs whose business operations are in conjunction with photo booth services. If your photo booth operations are independent of your DJ services, please visit www.ProPhotographersInsurance.com to purchase a policy to properly insure your photo booth.

If you occasionally contract with another DJ, KJ, or VJ company (Independent Contractor or subcontractor) to perform at a venue on your behalf under your company banner and there is a liability claim, you will be sued along with the Independent Contractor DJ, KJ, or VJ company you contracted, as they are operating on your behalf or under your company banner. Unless you have reported and paid for the correct number of gigs under the liability portion of the policy, the liability insurance will not apply.

Also, if you are subcontracting a job to another DJ, KJ, or VJ company to perform at a venue under your company banner, it is imperative that you obtain a Certificate of Insurance from the subcontracted DJ, KJ, or VJ company as proof of at least $1,000,000 of liability insurance. This Certificate Of Insurance should also name you and your DJ, KJ, or VJ company as an ‘Additional Insured’. If you and your DJ, KJ, or VJ company are properly named as an Additional Insured on the subcontracted DJ, KJ, or VJ liability insurance policy, in the event of a loss, you will have some protection from the subcontracted DJ, KJ, or VJ company liability insurance policy.

This RVNA Liability insurance program has specific exclusions usual to this form of general liability insurance. It must be understood that this is only a summary; it is not all inclusive, nor does it alter or waive any of the actual policy language. Questions regarding these exclusions, or this summary, should be directed to R.V. Nuccio & Associates Insurance Brokers, Inc. at 1.800.364.2433.

There is NO coverage, or coverage is excluded for:

  • Owned Automobile Liability
  • Owned Watercraft Liability
  • Owned/Non-Owned Aircraft Liability
  • Professional Liability
  • Property Damage Liability to any real or personal property which is in the care, custody or control of the insured DJ, KJ or VJ.
  • Any and all sums that would be recoverable under a Workers Compensation insurance policy, whether or not such policy exists.

DJ Gear/Equipment.

Equipment/gear insurance is available to DJs/KJs/VJs that own and need to insure everything in their setup such as mixing boards, speakers, microphones, lighting setups, laptops, and more! You’re covered while transporting and setting up anywhere in the United States – even when you’re home or your equipment is sitting in storage. Your equipment will be covered using replacement cost (new for old) not actual cash value and we have no per item maximum on individual items. You never have to provide us with a list of your equipment to be insured. Rented equipment coverage is also available!

You should insure 100% of your gear to protect you, if you have a claim.

Why? If you ever have a claim (and let’s hope you don’t) the insurance company will consider all of your gear/equipment not just the gear/equipment that you were using when you had a claim. If the insurance company determines you are underinsured (meaning you said you had less equipment than you did to lower your overall premium) they will pay less on your claim. This is standard for all insurance companies that offer business property/equipment insurance.

When purchasing DJ Gear/Equipment coverage, all items to be insured should be valued with the replacement cost (what you would pay today for a brand new item) not the actual cash value. It is not necessarily what you paid when you originally bought the item, you want to insure your items for the cost it would take to replace them today.

DJ Insurance In Minutes offers Gear/Equipment coverage for DJs / KJs / VJs whose business operations are in conjunction with photo booth services. If your photo booth operations are independent of your DJ services, please visit ProPhotographersInsurance.com to purchase a policy to properly insure your photo booth from theft, loss, or damage.

If you need business equipment and property coverage then purchase Gear/Equipment insurance. In addition, if you have employees and want to protect yourself from FRAUDULENT or DISHONEST ACTS by employees directly related to money and other securities then purchase Employee Crime.

Employee Crime does not cover DJ/KJ/VJ business equipment and gear when lost, stolen or destroyed. You must purchase Gear/Equipment coverage in order to insure your business equipment.

If you have employees, then Employee Crime protects the insured DJ/KJ/VJ against the theft of money and other securities, as well as forgery or alteration and employee dishonesty but it does not provide business equipment and gear coverage.

Gear/Equipment Employee Crime
Protection Provided Gear/Equipment Insurance covers DJ/KJ/VJ equipment, gear, office equipment, and media libraries including tapes, CDs, KDs, and LPs up to the selected limit, for losses caused by theft, damage, fire, hurricanes, earthquake, flood, and more! Employee Crime Insurance covers three things excluded by property/equipment insurance:

Employee dishonesty
Forgery or alteration
Theft, disappearance, and destruction of money and securities

Who Should Have Coverage Every DJ should have Gear/Equipment Insurance. DJs with employees should have Employee Crime Insurance because of the employee dishonesty component, which includes employee theft of equipment.

For other DJs, Employee Crime Insurance is a good thing to have if ever faced with a money/securities loss or a forgery situation.

Coverage Tip When completing the insurance application, make sure the limit selected is equal to the total replacement value of the items you’re insuring. Then, the policy will give you new equipment for old equipment. If you have an employee who has ever been convicted of dishonest acts in the past, he/she will not have coverage under your crime policy. Background checks are prudent.

This program has specific exclusions usual to this form of property/equipment insurance. It must be understood that this is only a summary. It is not all inclusive, nor does it alter or waive any of the actual policy language.

There is NO coverage, or coverage is excluded for:

  • Losses greater than the replacement value of the property.
  • Losses greater than the limit of insurance assigned to an item.
  • Loss due to inventory shortage or mysterious disappearance.
  • Loss or damage caused by, or made worse by:
    • Deterioration, inherent vice or latent defect;
    • Wear and tear;
    • Seizure or destruction of property by order of governmental authority;
    • Illegal transportation or trade;
    • A dishonest act of an employee (This coverage is available under Employee Crime);
    • The neglect of the insured to reasonably protect the property from a disaster or neighboring fire.
  • Property that is loaned, rented or given to others. This exclusion does not apply to equipment the insured DJ, KJ or VJ provides to his/her employees or subcontractors performing at a venue on behalf of the insured DJ, KJ or VJ.

Employee Crime.

The Top 3 Things Employee Crime covers:

  1. Employee Dishonesty – Dishonest acts of employees such as theft of all of the DJ, KJ or VJ equipment by an employee (which are excluded from the gear/equipment coverage – Employee Crime was created to fill this coverage gap).
  2. Forgery or Alteration
  3. Theft, Disappearance and Destruction (of money).

The RVNA Employee Crime coverage contains a condition that immediately cancels any future coverage for any employee(s) upon discovery by the Insured DJ, KJ or VJ of any dishonest act committed by that employee(s), either before or after becoming an employee of the Insured DJ, KJ or VJ. This condition is common to this type of coverage. Coverage is also excluded for any employee(s) for whom similar prior insurance has been canceled.

This RVNA Employee Crime program has specific exclusions usual to this form of crime insurance.

  • Losses, the proof of which is dependent upon an inventory or profit and loss computation.
  • Losses due to war, whether declared or not, war like action, civil war, insurrection, rebellion or revolution, or any related act or incident.
  • Losses due to accounting or arithmetical errors or omissions.
  • Moneys in coin-operated vending machines or amusement devices.
  • Losses to property in an armored vehicle or messenger service.
  • Losses (except money or securities) due to fire.
  • Losses resulting from extortion.
  • Interest, dividends, or other income resulting from a money loss.
  • Damages of any type for which the insured is legally liable. Legal expenses are also excluded.
  • Costs, fees, and other expenses incurred by the Insured in establishing the existence of or amount of a loss covered under this policy.

Definitions.

This coverage is designed to protect the insured against lawsuits arising by third parties for bodily injury.

A gig is when a DJ, KJ or VJ performs at a contracted event.

Some DJ companies have multiple gigs in one night. For example, you employ or subcontract two DJs, in addition to yourself. You have contracted three gigs/jobs for one evening.

Host Liquor Liability insurance is included at no additional charge with General Liability. Host Liquor Liability Insurance provides protection for the insured against bodily injury or property damage suits brought by parties whose injuries arise from actions of an intoxicated guest. Host Liquor Liability coverage applies only if there is no transfer of money for alcohol or service/product packages that include alcohol.

This is part of the Theft, Disappearance and Destruction coverage under Employee Crime. Loss Inside Premises provides protection for the loss of money and securities by the actual destruction, disappearance or wrongful abstraction thereof, within the premises.

This is part of the Theft, Disappearance and Destruction coverage under Employee Crime. Loss Outside Premises provides protection for the loss of money and securities by the actual destruction, disappearance or wrongful abstraction thereof, outside the premises while being conveyed by a messenger, or while within the living quarters in the home of any messenger. In most cases, the “messenger” would be your DJ, KJ or VJ employee collecting money or checks on your behalf.

Medical Payments pays the cost of an injured person’s medical expenses up to the policy limit, without consideration of who is at fault. Medical Payments coverage can help avoid costly lawsuits.

Non-Owned and Hired Automobile Liability Insurance protects the insured against third-party lawsuits arising from the use of automobiles, which are not owned or are rented, chartered or hired by the insured. For example, when you need to rent a van to haul equipment or if other DJs are driving on your company’s behalf.

Personal Injury Liability protects the insured from personal injury, other than bodily injury, resulting from false arrest, false detention, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, wrongful eviction, wrongful entry, or the invasion of privacy of a premises. It also includes injury caused by oral or written material that slanders a person, goods, products, services, or which violates the right of privacy.

Property Damage Liability protects you for damage that you may have to pay for when you or your DJs have damaged someone else’s property. For example, scratches on the floor from loading in equipment.
